He Proposed to Me with Her Ring Size

Public betrayal served cold with receipts.

The diamond catches the light as he drops to one knee, surrounded by everyone we know. He slides it toward me, but the band catches on my knuckle and refuses to budge. Laughter ripples through the crowd until Sophie, standing beside me, slips it on and it settles perfectly at the base of her finger. He brushes it off as a sizing error, yet the jeweler's receipt tells another story: the band was crafted to the exact measurement Sophie once mentioned in passing. He memorized that number about her while forgetting the woman waiting for his vow. I hand the box back without a word. If the ring was made for her, she can have the groom who came with it.
