The Godfather's Caged Bird

Gilded cage becomes launchpad for stolen future.

At eighteen, Elena Bennett watches her mother's underground debt transfer her ownership to Damian Moretti, heir to a New York crime dynasty. He erases the ledger and installs her in his estate — silk sheets, private tutors, zero exit. Ten birthdays pass behind those walls. When Damian arranges a political marriage to Victoria Rossi, the household braces for Elena's demand for cash or title. Instead she requests Cambridge admission. Convinced she cannot succeed, he enrolls her in a sound-alike college to mock her. Victoria then frames Elena for theft; Damian backs his fiancée, severing their final tie. Still monitored, Elena secretly studies, reconnects with Aiden Walker — the classmate who always ranked just behind her and never doubted her mind — and earns three A grades. Feigning submission, she convinces Damian to bring her to Europe, then vanishes during an Istanbul stopover using a decoy and private jet. Only in pursuit does Damian learn his caged canary was once bound for a top university.
